Glossary
The words you will see in your report, in plain terms.
- People-search site
- A website that lets anyone type in a name, phone number or email and see a profile of that person, often with home address, age and relatives. Many charge to unlock more.
- Data broker
- A company that collects personal details from public records, purchases and other sources and sells them. People-search sites are the data brokers you can see.
- Listing
- One profile page about you on a people-search site. One site can hold more than one listing for the same person.
- Opt-out
- A request you send a site, through its own form or page, asking it to stop showing your listing. Each site has its own steps.
- Breach
- An incident where a company lost data about its users, such as email addresses, passwords or phone numbers, and that data became available to others.
- Exposure level
- The overall rating at the top of your report. It reflects how easily a stranger could get from what is public to where you live or how to reach you.
- Recheck
- Running your report again later to see what changed: new listings, listings that came back and listings that are gone.
- Credit
- What you use to run a report. One credit pays for one full report or one recheck. You only pay for the reports you run.
- Free exposure check
- A quick first look, free for everyone, showing how many people-search sites, breaches and accounts are tied to your email.
- Full report
- Every result we found, what each one shows, how a stranger could get from one to the next, and a ranked list of fixes.
- Namesake
- Someone else with the same or a similar name. Their details can turn up in a search for you, so your report marks how sure we are that each result is yours.
